Exploring Somewhere New

"Once a year, go someplace you've never been before." - Dalai Lama
Sometimes, late at night after a long day, I get an itch to go somewhere new; To explore a little town with big character, or drive through back roads somewhere in middle America. I wouldn't stay long--I'd just dip my toes in the unfamiliar pond and get lost in small town book stores.
There's something about new spaces that inspires big ideas. Maybe that's why I enjoy Pinterest so much--because of the voyeuristic qualities that live in the pinned photos of one's home and personal life. We get to dig deep into photos of a woman dragging on a cigarette, sipping on coffee and studying the pages of Vogue.
Sure, we could do the same, but isn't it the unfamiliar nature of repinned photos that make for a jolt of imagination?
I have a friend who frequently travels, and after listening to her stories outlining all of the places unexplored to her, I can't help but wonder if maybe, just maybe, exploration is the key to an inspired life.
