Ela Taverna: New York's Best Greek Restaurant
Today I attempt to put into words an unbiased review of what I can confidently call one of my favorite restaurants in NYC – yes, I will stand behind that statement. Picture this: you step inside Ela Taverna in Williamsburg and you’re instantly transported to a Grecian island. Grab a seat at the bar for some mid-afternoon meze, or head to the back with a group – surrounded by garage-style doors and Mykonos-inspired decor – you can take that vacation you’ve been dreaming about without ever leaving New York.
Let’s get down to business: the food and drinks. We kicked off our four-hour meal (hey, we’re on Greek time), with a custom cocktail: a fresh fig martini. I’m usually not one for anything sweet, but this was fresh and perfect for a sweaty summer night. Might I suggest ordering a cocktail for the table? You’ll want to save room for the pitchers of wine you’re about to consume.
Ela Taverna uses fresh ingredients to serve up traditional Greek and Mediterranean food. From Mousaka to rare tapas combinations, each bite is better than the last. You’ll come for the atmosphere, but you’ll stay for the fresh bites, family-style service, and music that transports you late into the night.
What We Ordered for the Table:
A custom cocktail
Charcoal grilled octopus
Truffle fries and feta/honey fries (do it, seriously)
Spicy calamari with feta
